Apollo 8 by Jackson Tyler

Apollo 8 was a groundbreaking mission launched on December 21, 1968, marking several historic firsts in human space exploration. It was the first crewed spacecraft to leave Earth's gravitational influence, orbit the Moon, and return safely to Earth after such a journey. The crew, Frank Borman, James Lovell, and William Anders, orbited the Moon ten times over 20 hours, taking the first photographs of the Earth from deep space and becoming the first humans to see the Moon's far side with their own eyes. Apollo 8 was also the first crewed launch of the powerful Saturn V rocket and the first human spaceflight launched from Kennedy Space Center's Launch Complex 39. The mission was originally planned as a test of the lunar module in Earth orbit but was changed to a lunar orbital mission due to delays with the lunar module. A live Christmas Eve broadcast from lunar orbit, during which the astronauts read the first ten verses of the Book of Genesis, was watched by an estimated one billion people worldwide, sparking widespread public interest and reflection. The mission successfully demonstrated critical capabilities such as translunar injection, spacecraft navigation, communications, and midcourse corrections, paving the way for subsequent Apollo missions, including Apollo 11's successful Moon landing in 1969.
