Space to Ground (2 May 2025)
Space to Ground (S2G) (2 May 2025) - Presented by Nilufar Ramji - Readout by Frederic Eger: Space to Ground reports on the 93rd U.S. spacewalk, which took place on May 1st, supporting station assembly, maintenance, and upgrades. NASA astronauts Anne McClain and Nicole Ayres completed two tasks in space: installing a rollout solar array modification kit on the station's port truss structure, which will boost power generation capabilities by 30%, and relocating an antenna for communication with visiting vehicles. This was McClain's third spacewalk and Ayres' first. The 275th spacewalk in space station program history. Space botany, which studies plant life in space environments, includes investigations on microgravity, other planets, and space habitats. The APEX-12 investigation, known as Advanced Plant Experiments in Space-12, examines cell components that help plants survive stressful environments in space, influencing the viability of future space crops. Telomeres, the physical ends of chromosomes that affect plant health, play a crucial role in biological survivability in both plants and humans. This investigation could clarify the relationship between space radiation environment and telomere dynamics for future long-duration missions. - Video credit: NASA JSC - Readout by Frederic Eger: - More about research being operated on Station: https://www.nasa.gov/iss-science ; https://www.nasa.gov/stemonstation; https://x.com/Space_Station; http://facebook.com/iss; http://instagram.com/iss
